“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” -Matthew 6:19-21
“Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” That verse really stood out to me as I read this passage. Currently, I am reading through Matthew with the goal of trying to find out more of who Jesus is.
Learning to lay up treasures in heaven and not on earth can be difficult. Specially when we live in a society that sets a premium on what we can do to acquire riches and fame. We can’t “live in the moment” we have to live for the future. We can’t have our treasures here, in the moment, we have to have them in the future, heaven.
I often think about losing memories, and irreplaceable things. Like photos and videos of people, but really in eternity that doesn't matter. Of course its not a sin to care about those things, as long as you don’t think about them too much. Often its hard to tell if you care about something too much or not. If we can make sure that God stays in first place, and people and family second, before our things… our cares, then most likely we aren’t going to caring about it too much.
I know by now you get what I am trying to say, but its super important to know where your treasure is because your heart will be there. And as I said in the very first devotional in my newsletters, that determines your direction! If your treasure is the Lord and His will, you will have a heart tuned to His!
