Modesty– It’s an Act

Modesty

I know most of you have heard talks about modesty. Trust me, I’ve heard my share as well. The common theme is that we only hear about one side of Modesty– and that is clothing. There are so many books and sermons out there, so many varying opinions on what is “modest” and what you should wear and what you can’t wear. But this is only 1/2 of modesty! What you wear is only part of being truly modest.

In the Bible, the word modest (kosmios) is used twice. Once to describe clothing and once to describe behavior. These verses are 1 Timothy 2:9 and 1 Timothy 3:2 (good behavior=modesty).

As you can see we are called to be modest in apparel and modest in behavior. What does that look like for us ladies?

Well, we can be feminine as God calls us to be and we can honor him with how we move the bodies He has given us.

Can you give glory to God while you are flirting and acting unbecomingly? The answer is no. Most likely, if you are flaunting yourself that isn’t very modest.

Being humble is also an act of modesty. Maybe we don’t act seductively, but we are prideful and always putting ourselves in the center of attention. We could also try to draw the eyes of others to yourself. That is not modest either.

God calls us to be modest in our actions JUST AS MUCH as He calls us to be modest in our dress! How do we be modest in our actions?

1. Don’t flirt or flaunt, be honoring to God in the way you present yourself in front of guys.

2. Be humble and don’t boast/talk all about yourself. Don’t be in the center of attention or draw attention to yourself.

Over all modesty points to the One who is the most important. When you are modest, in your dress and actions– then you point to God. All glory and praise then can be directed towards Him!

Lauren Davies

My name is Lauren Norlene Davies, I am 18 years old and I live with my parents and younger brother. I am constantly reminded how short life is and how important it is to live for the Lord and do all things for His glory and honor!

I was saved when I was young and since then, I have continued to grow in my relationship with the Lord. God has given me the passion to disciple the younger girls He places in my life.

Why am I writing newsletters and blog posts? A few years ago, God placed on my heart the importance of impacting and helping those around me. If I can make a difference in someone’s life by writing or providing impactful and meaningful stories, then I am delighted and honored to do so. God is the most important person to talk, think and write about, so that is the reason I love to share about Him. I hope that through these newsletters you learn the same thing. Turn your eyes upon Jesus, a take them off of ourselves.

Music has also been a very big part of my life. I began playing the violin in 2009 and started playing the piano a few years later. Since 2020, I have taught the violin and I love to be able to play music for the Lord and glorify Him through music!

I also love to cook, bake, crochet, read books, watch movies, organize and spend time with friends. I am an extrovert, leader and love to work with people!

This fall I am teaching violin, helping with my grandparents' ministry, (www.penielranch.org), and serving in my church, Emmanuel Baptist Church of Snohomish.

My prayer is that you will be encouraged in your faith by this blog! All glory be to God!
